Ladakh Diaries : Tangla Pass & Tsokar Lake

Tsokar lake is located at the height of 14,860 feet and has very little water in it. Tso Kar means “White lake” and its called so because of white colour salt deposits around it.

We travelled to Tsokar via Leh. Total distance is about 150 km and road conditions are excellent. Road is part of Manali-Leh highway, so its very well maintained. On the way you will pass through Tang La pass which is the 2nd highest motorable pass in the world.

Tangla Pass and its serpentine roads
Wish i could fly from here…it was an amazing view

As you come down from Tangla pass, you are greeted with some amazing views and lovely roads.

Best place to stop by, a Punjabi dhaba in between mountains

Tsokar lake is not very far from Punjabi dhaba and the first you notice when you reach Tsokar lake is large open spaces, lots of wind and chilly weather but the place is very scenic.

Night was quite cold at Tsokar and it was the best weather for BonFire!!

And Morning was bright and Sunny, it brightened up the mood before onwards journey.

Although Tsokar lake is at height 14.8k feet and we had been to places at higher altitude but here few of us felt breathlessness and i had to take Disprin. I cannot really explain why at lower height we felt breathless but probably a place where one should not exert too much.
